Trail Running Scotland: Cairngorms

I’ve been back living in the Cairngorms for a couple of months now, and life is good!  So happy to be back here, and definitely have that good to be home feeling!  I’ve gone and got myself a real job, so I’ve been pretty busy with that, but have managed to squeeze in a bit of training for my ultras that are coming up in August and September – although there’s lot of internal debate going on as to whether or not I’m actually going to be fit enough.

Highlights have been a lovely trot up to the summit of Ben MacDui, which is the second highest mountain in the UK – it was an amazing blue sky day and super hot!  I also trailed my bike across the Cairngorms – from Glenmore by Bynack More to Braemar, and back by Glen Feshie.  I’ve wanted to do that route for ages, and I’m glad I did, but it made me realise that I’m pretty much over these long, hard days on the hill – give me a morning of supping coffee and stuffing my face, followed by an afternoon of running, biking, climbing, skiing, whatever, and then an evening in the pub drinking and more stuffing of face!  Also – snoring in hostels is definitely in need of some sort of legal intervention!
